Gone Viral

After a pretty intense day, I received a phone call from a reporter at Fox 17 news who mentioned that a few people whom I do not know had contacted them saying that they felt what I was doing was inspiring others and it was worth sharing. I’ll be honest, I had literally just got home from my getting my “scary” news and after getting only an hour of sleep the night before, getting the news about my treatment and then talking to a few of my other doctors on the phone with updates from the day, all I really wanted to do was take a nap.

That’s when I got the call from Fox 17. I have no idea how they found me or why they wanted to share my story but they were adamant that we not only cover it, but that we cover it immediately. I’ll be honest I want my story to inspire others and most importantly I want other young women like me who have no reason to believe any of this could ever happen to them to be proactive in their healthcare. However this is only a few weeks in the making and up until now I have been comfortably posting behind closed doors so having someone “mic” me and put a giant camera in my face only hours after receiving my worst news, took me WAY out of my comfort zone.

After much hesitation fueled from my own fear of opening up on a bigger more public level, my husband and 2 dear friends one of which happens to be a nurse I met on day two of this journey were VERY quick to remind me that I keep saying that I do believe this is part of a bigger plan for me and that more then anything I want to let my own insecurities go and I just let this journey play out for me if it has the potential to help others. After hearing my own words thrown back at me, I knew I had to put my game face back on and do this, so I accepted the request from Fox 17. They were literally at my house with in the hour with all of their gear and it became a reality this was not only really happening but that it was going public only a few hours later on the 11 news.

Let me start by saying it was one of the hardest things I have done personally and although it’s hard for me to see myself in a public realm, I am both honored and humbled at the fact that women or people of all ages have been inspired by something that I have done in the past few weeks. More importantly I am fueled to continue to get my message out there if it is helping anyone at all and I am inspired myself to continue on this positive path. One of the biggest lessons I have learned from my dear friend Vicki, from my own experiences over the past 3 weeks and from from this news article is that by helping others I am also helping myself. There is a silver lining in all of this negative. I am opening up and becoming someone I never thought I could be and from this point on I plan to not only embrace it, but I plan run with it.

I owe a big thank you to Troy from Fox 17 News. He did really push for this interview, but he was quite amazing in making me feel comfortable during the hour we talked and I do feel he did an great job of sharing the start of my journey with a larger mass.

Now comes the hard part…. Sharing with all of you. Here’s a link to both the article and video from Fox 17 News.
